About me

Junior Edwards was born June 5th 1966 in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago.
Influenced by his musical family Junior tried his first atempts on the Steeldrum at the young age of 8 years.

Playing first with the Hillside Simphony Steelband, he moved in 1986 to the well known Steelband Skiffle Bunch with whom he toured for many years. Together with Skiffle Bunch he played in Asia, South-America and all over Europe.

A few of the main highlights were, for sure, the performance for the state president of Venezuela as well as for the Queen of England at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

David Rudder, a very famous Calypso singer from Trinidad & Tobago (www.davidrudder.co.tt) also accompanied them to Italy on a tour, along with Charlie’s Roots.

Since 1996 Junior lives and works in Switzerland. Thanks to the cooperation with Leon Duncan (www.leon-duncan.info) and a few courses at the Zurich Jazz School he has learnt a lot to improve himself musically.

Junior is also in demand as drummer or percussion player. At the moment he is a member of the Namusoke (www.namusoke.ch) and Black Power (www.black-power.ch) bands with whom you can see and hear him live on stage.

Junior is teaching various Steelbands, arranging their songs and is always ready for other Steelband – Projects. A very successful project was “Swisstrin” with about 50 steelband players with whom he also took part at the EXPO 2002 in Biel, supported by the great Len Boogsie Sharpe.

At the moment Junior Edwards and David Henry are busy with the “Caribbean Connection” project.
The aim was to participate at the Notting Hill Carnival in London 2007. With about 60 players this project for sure was one of the biggest in Switzerland. The next big event was in Berlin 2008 & 2009 / “Carnival der Kulturen” which was with great success both years.
